Herstory

This was long due, meant to have been a post on the 8th of March, sadly I got busy with other things.

Well I spent International Women's Day with Jean Harlow, Kalpana Lazmi, Dorris Lessing, Mother Teresa, Marie Curie and our very own 'Pink Chaddi' mascot, Nisha Susan. Well not to perplex my readers anymore (hardly doubt if there's any more than one, counting me) I was at a Ladies Quiz the same day battling it out to get some questions right. I teamed up with this really smart geek, Rashmi who runs a consultancy and has two children getting trained to be BBC masterminds. Nonetheless what spells out as the most interesting thing is that Arul Mani was the quizmaster, the quintessential Arul Mani! Quite a predicament, as he was quite abashed at the naive'ty of all of us-the particpants. Nevertheless it was a great time as you just can't get enough of the kind of questions AM hurls at you, so subtle yet so discrete.

What resulted was even better as we coaxed him into having more number of ladies quizzes, and not wait for the auspicious day, which but comes only once a year. So hopefully we shall see the inception of a series, truly of its kind.

By the way Rashmi and me were runners-up at the quiz.

  1. y must u feel the need for a quiz meant only for women??? its being chauvinist (i know female chauvinism is unheard of... but there u hv it...). do u think perhaps, that a women doesn't stand on equal ground when she's amongst men, competing with them? here we are trying to make the future a non sexist world, when you see women taking advantage of the privileges given to them by asking for a headstart. women obviously stand a hell of a good chance among men, u said that urself! now y do u ask for a 'ladies-only quiz'? men may be from mars and women may be from venus... but here's the harsh reality, we both live on EARTH and co-exist. no special privileges for the beings whose home is closer to the sun. DEAL with it...

(btw, just tryin to make a point here. i am no way mad at wat u hv written. i see this as a debate... personally, i don't give a rats arse if they made a quiz only for skydiving chimmps. why wud i be bothered bout a women-only quiz eh????)

  2. Certainly you didn't get what I was trying to convey through this post. I was emphasizing on the need for quizzes specially dedicated for women, so that their winning opportunities become twice as much. Much like the reservation funda that we have, we'd anyway have meritorious women coming in the top ranks and also those who'r just good enough to make it through quota. Lol!

  3. Quizzes are not like women's singles tournament... dedicated only for women. It's ok in a physical sport, but not in a mental one.Mentally I think women are more stronger than men and so are their mental reflexes. And after saying all this I think its quite absurd to have reservation in a qizzing arena.....
